NewJeans Sets Record For Highest Debut Album Sales In First Week

With the release of their debut eponymous mini album, "New Jeans," on 8 August, the up-and-coming K-pop group NewJeans, signed to HYBE's label All Doors One Room (ADOR), set a record for the highest first-week debut album sales for a girl group.

NewJeans set a record for the highest number of opening week sales for a girl group's debut album on Monday, getting over 311,000 album sales in the first week of its release, according to the album tracker on Hanteo Chart. With the release of their debut album "Fearless" in May, another HYBE label girl group Le Sserafim - which is under Source Music - were the previous owners of this record as they sold 307,000 copies of their debut album.

The "New Jeans" album has four tracks, including three title tracks - namely, Attention, Hype Boy and Cookie - and a b-side, Hurt. It was available on streaming sites on 1 August but the physical album was released a week later, on 8 August.

For four days in a row on Melon and Genie, and seven days on Bugs, the lead single "Attention" has topped the charts on the major music streaming services.

The song held the top spot on Spotify Korea's daily top chart for 13 days in a row, with "Hype Boy" coming in second. It also made its debut on the Billboard Global chart and the music streaming service's global top song chart.

NewJeans has surpassed other girl groups to earn the eighth highest first week sales in Hanteo history less than a month after their debut. Only aespa, BLACKPINK, ITZY, Red Velvet, IZ*ONE, IVE, and TWICE have had higher first-week sales to date among girl groups.
