BTS Announce An Indefinite Hiatus

BTS will be going on a hiatus for an indefinite amount of time.

On 14 June while wrapping up their 2022 BTS Festa activities, BTS shared an hour-long video of themselves enjoying a good meal while talking about their careers and future with each other. Here, the group made a shocking announcement about them taking a hiatus as a full group for some time now - surprising fans and the global music industry.

Although in the beginning the video is pretty light as the group is just eating, talking and joking around with each other, member Suga bring casually brings up the topic of hiatus and all the members join in explaining why they feel time apart right now is essential.

Leader RM states, “There’s no time for me to grow. Not just in terms of my skills, but as a human. I’m a very different person from who I was 10 years ago, and I need time to think and be on my own, so those thoughts can mature into something uniquely mine,” before adding he has to fid out who he is and what kind of relationship he has with the people around him to put it all into his work in the future. He also mentioned that he felt he could grasp onto what kind of group BTS is till ON and Dynamite but by the time they were putting out Butter and Permission To Dance, he didn’t know what kind of group BTS were.

Member Jin mentioned, “Doing group activities for so long—just like you guys mentioned earlier, I started to feel like I’ve become a machine. I have my own hobbies and things I want to do on my own.”

J-Hope added, “I’ve said this a lot to the other members, but I think we need to spend some time apart to learn how to come together again,” before requesting fans to not view the hiatus negatively.

Despite the hiatus, the group clarifies that this isn’t them disbanding. They are merely taking a break from full group activities for the time being.

A couple of hours after the video went live, their agency Big Hit Music stated that the group is starting a new chapter of their life where they will promote as a group as well as individual solo artists simultaneously. “This will be a time for each of the members to grow with their diverse activities, and we anticipate that this will foster BTS into a long-running team. The label will actively support this,” they add.

BTS will also continue to film and air their variety show, Run! BTS throughout this hiatus - giving fans something where they can still watch them interact as a full group.

Although this announcement is very surprising, fans feel this has been a long time coming since BTS have been on the go and working non-stop over the past few years.

Before the hiatus however, BTS will go on music shows to promote their album Proof that was released last week.
