Girls’ Generation member and solo artist Taeyeon will be taking over as the MC for the upcoming second season of the Mnet competition show Queendom.
Actress Lee Dahae hosted the first season of Queendom back when it aired in 2019. The first season featured a number of prolific girl groups and solo artists including Mamamoo, Park Bom, Oh My Girl, AOA, Lovelyz and (G)-idle. Mamamoo ended up winning the show at the end – getting a big and highly publicized comeback as their prize. Although all the other participating artists also benefited from appearing in the show – the show boosted Oh My Girl’s popularity in particular very well as the girl group practically blew up with their 2020 hit Nonstop after appearing in the show.
The sequel shows Road To Kingdom and Kingdom – that aired in 2020 and 2021, respectively – focused on boy groups. The Boyz won Road To Kingdom which landed them a spot in Kingdom and Stray Kids ended up winning Kingdom with The Boyz finishing as the runner-ups.
The artist lineup for Queendom 2 is yet to be confirmed. The show will reportedly start filming next month.
Regarding Taeyeon’s appointment as the MC, the producers of the show stated, “Taeyeon made her successful debut in 2007 as part of the global girl group Girls’ Generation. She went on to become a musician who has maintained her position as a top solo artist for the past 16 years, while also being renowned as a competent vocalist with her diverse and deep music releases.”
