Meet Le Sserafim: Bighit’s First Girl Group in a Decade With Two Iz*one Members, a Ballet Dancer and an Opera Singer

Rumors about Bighit Music and Hybe Labels debuting a new girl group have been circulating for some time. Now we finally have confirmation about their debut. Although there is no information about when the group is debuting, all the members of the group have been revealed and Hybe is slowly rolling out the teasers and concept videos for Le Sserafim.

To no one’s surprise, the first member to be revealed was the first of the two Japanese members of the group, Sakura Miyawaki. As a former member of the Japanese group AKB48/HKT48 and the Korean group Iz*one, she has over 10 years of experience being an idol. She was arguably one of the most popular members in both her groups and her joining Hybe Labels made headlines last month.

Sakura’s teaser photos were released on 3 April on the group’s social media.

The same day, a video teaser introducing Sakura was also uploaded to Hybe Labels’ Youtube channel.

The second member to be revealed was Kim Garam. Netizens were mesmerized with her good looks. A day later however, multiple netizens came forward revealing her ‘problematic past’ which included some serious claims about her being an infamous bully at her school. Although Hybe has put out an official statement saying all the rumors are untrue - that she was the bullying victim if anything, and announcing that they will sue whoever spreads false rumors about her, this defense from the company has only prompted more netizens to come forward with their own claims of Garam’s alleged shady past. Despite this, Hybe seems to be pushing through with including her in the lineup for Le Sserafim and in a lot of the group pictures, she seems to be the center of the group alongside Sakura.

Both her teaser pictures and intro video were released on 4 April.

Hong Eunchae, the group’s youngest or makne was the third member to be revealed. There hasn’t been much information about her yet. She is a ‘06 liner who used to train at Def Dance Skool and had also auditioned for JYP Entertainment and Pledis Entertainment before.

Her introduction video and photo teasers were released on 5 April.

The fourth member to be revealed was the other Iz*one and Produce 18 alum, KiM Chaewon. She was known as one of the aces of Iz*one - good at everything she does including singing and dancing. She is apparently the leader of Le Sserafim. Her signing exclusive contracts with Hybe (alongside Sakura) was a big deal.

Her introduction video and photo teasers were released on 6 April.

A day later, the second Japanese member, Kazuha, was revealed. Netizens were pleasantly shocked to find out that she has extensive classical ballet training - she apparently lived in The Netherlands, from 2020 to 2021, where she took ballet classes. She also learned ballet at two prestigious schools - Bolshoi Academy (Moscow) and Royal Ballet School (London).

Heo Yunjin was the last member to be revealed. The Korean-American Idol participated in Produce 48 and was very close to making it into the final group Iz*one alongside Sakura and Chaewon. She is known for having impeccable singing skills and being very beautiful. She is also a trained opera singer and used to train under another Hybe subsidiary - Pledis Entertainment.

Once all the individual introductory teasers were out, Hybe has also been putting out concept photos and videos for the group. They unveiled two group pictures on 9 April with different vibes. One is of the members standing huddled in a line in variations of the simple jeans and a top combo. The other has them dressed up in extravagant and colorful gowns.
