Twice is a household name in Kpop. The group is considered the most popular girl group in the industry right now alongside Blackpink. They have been pretty successful since their debut in 2015 with Like Ooh Ahh but it was really their 2016 comeback Cheer Up that brought them explosive fame.
The group has been able to maintain their popularity ever since - if anything, they have only gotten more and more popular. Their most recent album, Formula of Love: O+T=<3, sold over 800,000 copies and the title track, Scientist, won two music shows - Music Bank and Inkigayo.
But one thing that is pretty distinctive about the group’s promotion is how they always promote as a full group and rarely have any solo or unit promotions. This is quite unusual since most groups will debut sub-units or member solos after a few years into their careers. And since Twice is very successful, fans have been wondering why their management company, JYP Entertainment hasn’t debuted any solos or sub-units from the group. With the group’s massive popularity, it’s certain that any solo or sub-unit release will definitely be very successful.
But it looks like we won’t have to wait much longer for a solo debut from Twice! Eagle-eyed fans recently noticed that JYP Entertainment has registered something titled ‘NA / 1st Mini Album’ to Global Trade Item Number (GTIN).
As Nayeon is one of the few JYP artists with a ‘Na’ in their name - including Sana, Mina and Itzy’s Yuna - fans think this must be for Nayeon’s upcoming solo debut.
The way the album is registered follows the format Kpop agencies use to register upcoming albums without fully revealing who the artist is. For example, SM Entertainment has registered something titled ‘ON / 2nd Mini Album’ and fans are sure it is SHINee member Onew’s comeback album. Onew is supposed to make his comeback with - you guessed it - his second mini album in April.
Nayeon has previously posted covers of songs to Twice’s Youtube channel. Check out her cover of Falling by Harry Styles below!
For the time being, we can only hope it really is Nayeon’s comeback. What are your thoughts on this? Leave them below in the comments!
