Former Iz*one member and soloist Choi Yena will comeback in August.
Korean news site Hankook Ilbo reported on 15 July that Yena is currently in the final stages of preparation for her first comeback as a solo artist that is expected to drop next month.
This comeback comes six months after her debut with her first mini-album 'ˣ‿ˣ (SMiLEY)' that came out in January of this year. Her debut was met with a lot of love from fans.
According to Gaon Charts (it has since been renamed to Circle Charts), Yena’s 'ˣ‿ˣ (SMiLEY) album sold over a 100,000 copies. She even won her first music show trophy with the title song on the 10 February episode of M Countdown. Usually, it takes artists a couple of comebacks to win a music show so Yena’s win with her debut is a remarkable feat. Check out her encore stage and acceptance speech below!
Something fans loved in particular about Yena’s debut was how the title song of the album perfectly reflected her bright and upbeat personality. While visually she went for a darker punk rock aesthetic, the overall vibe of her comeback was very optimistic and fun. She also had some great styling throughout her promotional stages. Besides her musical releases, Yena has also been doing a variety of activities. She frequently appears on various variety shows and even hosted her own Youtube show, Animal Detective, which was pretty popular when it aired. Yena has also debuted as an actress with 2021’s World Of y Seventeen Season Two playing the lead role of Oh Nari.
